March 2012 Uganda Trip-Day 4

After a night with no power (read “no fans in our rooms”) we got an early start and headed for the African Children’s Choir’s headquarters. After a briefing session with Robert Beasley on the day’s process, we launched into a series of conversations with young Africans who have submitted business plans for consideration.

Seasoned by a few days of immersion in the Ugandan economy, we found several of the proposals to be more of the same with an emphasis on agriculture and storefront retail.

We were impressed, though, with the passion of the students and their vision for their companies. In addition to listening to their presentations, we began interviewing them to discern the depth of their knowledge, the accuracy of their numbers and their plans to market their products.

After the candidate interviews, we debriefed as a group, discussed the highs and lows of the applications and took more notes as we went. Big picture: we’re gaining momentum this week on our discovery process and hopefully contributing to Work For Life's positive impact on some young lives.
